Fitment first: this kit covers the Acura RSX from 2002 through 2006, and it works on every trim level in that range. Part number VDCARSX0207 is a lambo door hinge conversion from Vertical Doors, Inc. (VDI), built specifically for the two-door RSX so the doors pivot up and forward instead of swinging out into the next parking space. Note the fitment carefully, this kit ends at the 2006 model year.

The hinges bolt directly to the RSX’s factory bolt pattern, and the conversion is fully reversible, so the car can go back to its stock hinges later if plans change. VDI machines these kits in the USA from domestic hardened steel, and the design is patented here as well. A step-by-step instruction manual ships with the kit and VDI offers free tech support, but door alignment takes patience and a second set of hands, so we recommend having a professional installer do the fitting using the supplied instructions. The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.
