This is a direct bolt-on hinge conversion kit from Vertical Doors Inc., part number VDCFEXC0005. The two lambo hinges mount straight to the factory bolt pattern, so the stock doors swing out and then up without permanent modification to the body, and the included gas shocks hold each door once it is raised. The whole conversion is reversible, so removing the kit puts the Excursion back on its original hinges.

Fitment covers the Ford Excursion from 2000 through 2005, every model year and every trim level in that range. The hinges are made in the USA from domestic hardened steel and the design is patented. While the kit bolts to existing mounting points, we recommend having a professional installer do the work, following the instructions supplied with the kit. One note before ordering: truck and SUV kits are non-refundable and non-exchangeable, so double-check your year and model before you buy.

The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.
