At its core this kit is a hinge swap. It replaces the stock hinges on the two-door Honda Civic with Vertical Doors, Inc. hinges that let each door swing out and then rotate up, Lambo style. Part number VDCHC112DR covers the 2012-2015 Civic coupe and fits every trim across those years – 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Here is what comes in the box:

The hinges mount to the factory bolt pattern, so the kit bolts on where the original hinges sat, and the conversion is fully reversible – unbolt it and the car goes back to stock. The hardware is made in the USA from domestic hardened steel and the design is patented here as well. Vertical Doors, Inc. has been building these kits for over 20 years and is the only US manufacturer of vertical Lambo door and ZLR conversions. A printed instruction manual ships in the box and free tech support is a phone call or email away, but we recommend having a professional installer do the fitting using the instructions supplied with the kit – local, nationwide and mobile installers are available.

The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.
