Left and right hinge assemblies, gas shocks, mounting hardware, instructions

The seventh-generation Toyota Celica has one of the sharpest wedge profiles Toyota ever drew, and vertical doors push that shape further. With this conversion your factory doors pivot up and forward on Vertical Doors, Inc. hinges instead of swinging out, which also helps in tight parking spots where a fully opened door will not fit. Part number VDCTOYCEL0005 fits every trim of the Celica from 2000 through 2006.

Inside the box you get:

  • 2 Vertical Doors, Inc. lambo door hinges, one for each side
  • 2 gas shocks to carry the door through its travel and hold it open
  • All the mounting hardware needed for the conversion

The hinges are a direct bolt-on and pick up the Celica’s factory bolt pattern, so the kit is built for this chassis rather than adapted from a universal design, and the conversion is completely reversible if you ever want the car back to stock. Every kit is made in the USA from domestic hardened steel and the design is patented here as well. A printed instruction manual ships with the kit, and while a mechanically inclined owner with basic tools can handle it, we recommend having a professional installer work through those instructions, since door alignment and shock adjustment take patience to get right.

Shown: a typical VDI kit. Your kit is made for your car, so its exact plate, arm, brackets and shock differ from this drawing.

The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.
